Bank on Us to Do the Right Thing

Case Study

We helped the UK’s largest retails bank to meet a media sensitive regulatory commitment while realising significant cost savings

Client's Goal

This major British financial institution operating across the UK aimed to achieve a successful £1.5bn regulatory-driven divestment project as it was considered so big that it breached anti-competitive laws.

The high-profile project required seamless integration of over 250 core banking applications so that it transferred over to the chosen challenger bank, while maintaining the integrity of the client’s core infrastructure. The desired outcome was to improve operational efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance.

Our role

As Programme Head of Environment Provisioning, our responsibility was to manage Test and Live environment provisioning for the core banking applications, coordinating efforts with 14 technology teams comprising 50 resources across IT infrastructure, application, and testing.

What we did

We expertly managed risks, issues, dependencies, communication, and stakeholders using MS Project to control the critical path. We achieved a cost saving of over 60% by streamlining critical data-cut and data-load activities, eliminating the need for a ten-member team. This set a new precedent for future management of such activities.

Moreover, we implemented improvements to project planning, resource management, and cost management control, reducing the risk of delays and boosting stakeholder confidence.

The Value

Our involvement in the divestment project delivered significant value to Lloyds Banking Group. We facilitated over 60% cost savings by streamlining critical activities, resulting in leaner, faster processes and reduced confusion. The successful integration of core banking applications ensured a seamless transition while maintaining Lloyds’ infrastructure integrity.

Ultimately, our efforts contributed to the bank’s ongoing commitment to regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and stakeholder confidence.

What the client says

The Verde programme is a charged and extremely high-pressured environment with exposure to senior stakeholders, where Piovis remained very professional and proactive. Working alongside Piovis, I appreciate their contribution to the programme combined with the excellent knowledge of their field with deep managerial experience to pragmatically promote sustainable project management practices. They are keen to seek input from a variety of sources and are always equally ready to support and motivate their colleagues at all times. When joining the programme, Piovis spent time with me to take me through the process and expectations in the programme, as both need to work in conjunction to manage the delivery. They have also mentored two other consultants on the same programme. Piovis has shown they can interact both at the front line and at senior level, representing the team through senior stakeholder meetings. They have been pivotal in their role showing improvements to the programme through progress, encouraging ideas, listening to team members, and implementing change.
