This major player in the UK’s postal and communication industry, aimed to drive strategic initiatives for increased profitability across their branch network, bolstering their proposition to attract future entrepreneurs and boost competitiveness in the retail sector. With a vast network spanning 11,500 branches across the UK as of 2022, their ambition was to foster innovation and operational efficiency, ultimately delivering tangible benefits to their customers, stakeholders, and shareholders.

Our role

As Business Transformation Project Managers, our mission was to set up and manage a £700k transformation project targeting cost savings and bolstering the client’s competitive edge in the retail space. We were entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that this significant undertaking achieved the desired outcomes, while maintaining consistency with company’s Change governance.

What we did

We assembled and led a team of seven in London, working closely with Senior Business Directors and other strategic programmes to identify potential cost savings of approximately £60 million suggested within undelivered business cases that previously drafted by a top-tier strategic consulting firm.

We designed and implemented a hybrid project plan, combining agile concepts like sprints with a traditional waterfall programme plan. This innovative approach accelerated project delivery and improved work quality. Our efforts fostered a culture shift among postmasters through incentive schemes, training, and support, and we delivered tactical and strategic roadmaps aligned with the Business’ medium and long-term Target Operating Models.
